About us

A local crew, built around the tide

Sundarban Travel Agency has run river passages out of Godkhali for years, pairing forest-department licensed naturalist guides with small, low-wake houseboats. We plan every departure around the tide table, not the clock, so whatever the delta shows you — a pug mark on a mudbank, a crocodile at low tide, a creek full of fireflies — you're there to see it.

The route

Three ways down the delta

Each package is a stop along the same river passage out of Godkhali. Open a package for the full itinerary.

What to watch for

The delta's residents

The Sundarban is one habitat shared by tidal specialists. Meet them all →

Royal Bengal tiger walking on a mangrove island

Royal Bengal tiger

Strong swimmers, known to cross tidal channels between islands. Best odds near freshwater points at dawn.

Wildlife breeding centre, Karamjal, Sundarban

Saltwater crocodile

Basks on exposed mudbanks at low tide. The breeding centre at Sajnekhali is the reliable sighting point.

Spotted deer in the Sundarban

Spotted deer

Chital herds graze the forest edge at dusk — often the first movement spotted from the boat.

Mangrove roots, Sundarban

Wild honey & hives

Local moulis (honey collectors) work April to June — several packages route past active collection grounds.

Off the boat

What lands on your plate

Meals are cooked aboard by a local crew. See the full menu →

Shorshe Ilish, hilsa fish in mustard sauce
Bengal's favourite

Shorshe Ilish

Hilsa simmered in a mustard-seed gravy — the dish everyone waits for through the monsoon.

Chingri malai curry, prawns in coconut milk
Coastal classic

Chingri Malai Curry

River prawns cooked slow in coconut milk — a dish shared out at nearly every meal stop.

Bengali khichuri, a mixed rice and lentil dish
Onboard staple

Bhape Khichuri

Rice and lentils steamed soft — the crew's answer to a damp morning on deck.

Nolen gur sandesh, a Bengali sweet made with date palm jaggery
Winter special

Nolen Gur Sandesh

A milk sweet folded with fresh date-palm jaggery, sold along the Godkhali road in season.

Traveller notes

From recent passages

A few words from guests who took the route down the delta.

★★★★★

"We saw pug marks on the second morning and a crocodile basking right below the watchtower. The boat crew knew exactly where the tide would take us."

★★★★★

"Good for a first trip into the delta. The guide explained the tide charts before every stop, which made the whole thing feel less like a tour and more like a real river journey."

★★★★★

"The honey village stop was the highlight, not the tiger search. Five days felt right for actually understanding how people live with the tide out here."

"Cabins were simple but clean, and the canopy walk at Dobanki alone was worth the trip. Would go for the longer route next time."
